Understanding our Seasonal Schedule

Writer: G&G ServicesG&G Services

At G&G Services, we understand that our clients often have specific timelines and preferences for their projects. However, the nature of our work and the logistical challenges we face require us to follow a systematic and strategic schedule to ensure the highest quality and efficiency in our services. Here's an overview of how we prioritize and schedule our work throughout the season:

Spring and Early Summer: Road Maintenance

Our primary focus in the spring and the first part of summer is on road maintenance. This is a critical period for maintaining and stabilizing roads after the winter months. The key factors influencing our schedule include:

  • Elevation and Snow Melt: High elevation areas often retain snow longer, making them inaccessible for early maintenance. We begin our work in lower elevation areas where snow has melted and the roads are accessible. Additionally, performing road maintenance too early risks losing all the work completed if there is too much moisture presented later on, such as runoff or flooding.

  • Water Access: Some locations rely on drainage ditches that only flow in early spring. We prioritize these areas to ensure adequate water supply for road stabilization.

Systematic Approach by Location

Following consideration of elevation and water access, the next important factor is location. Due to the scale of equipment necessary for our operations, we move systematically by location as much as possible. This method reduces the cost of mobilization and ensures that we can allocate our resources efficiently. Here's a list of the equipment typically needed for our jobs:

  • Grader

  • Water Truck

  • Frac Tank(s)

  • Tanker Trailer

  • Pumps

  • Dump Truck

  • Skid Steer

  • Excavator

  • Job Trailer containing smaller tools and supplies

This equipment requires large and specialized vehicles and trailers to move, and there are DOT and special license requirements for moving this equipment. The effort and cost involved in relocating all necessary resources make it imperative that we move through our service areas in a systematic way by location as much as possible.

Benefits of Our Systematic Approach

  1. Cost Efficiency: Reduces the cost of mobilization passed on to our clients.

  2. Quality Assurance: Ensures we have all necessary equipment on-site, leading to higher quality work.

  3. Timely Completion: Allows us to complete projects in a timely manner by minimizing downtime and logistical delays.

We often get requests to prioritize a job sooner, and we understand it can be difficult to see why we can't always accommodate these requests. Even if you perceive your job to be relatively quick and simple, the extensive equipment required and the logistical complexities of relocating such large-scale resources across various locations present significant challenges. Our systematic approach allows us to serve all our clients efficiently while ensuring the highest quality of work.

Spot Grading Requests

We understand that some roads may have specific areas in need of repair before we can accommodate full maintenance operations in your area. To address these urgent needs, we can often accommodate spot grading requests earlier in the year. By dedicating one team member and one piece of equipment to the area, we can perform dry spot grading to temporarily address specific problem areas. However, please note that this is only a temporary solution and does not replace full maintenance. If you feel your area requires spot grading, please reach out to us as early in the spring as possible to discuss your needs and schedule this service.

Mid-Summer to Fall: One-Time Projects

As we progress into the later part of summer and fall, we shift our focus to one-time projects. These include:

  • Driveway installations and repairs

  • Culvert and drainage projects

  • Miscellaneous excavation and other work

Adjustments for Weather and Other Factors

While we strive to adhere to our systematic approach, we occasionally adjust our schedule based on weather conditions and other unforeseen factors. This flexibility helps us maintain the quality of our work and meet our clients' needs as effectively as possible.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to deliver the best possible service. If you have any questions or need further clarification on our schedule, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're here to help and ensure that your project is completed to your satisfaction.
